Cultural Events Coming to Erie and East Boulder County

Written by Jessica Learoyd and Heather Cleveland, Pop-Up Culture Co-Founders

Hello,

We (Jessica Learoyd and Heather Cleveland) would like to introduce ourselves. We are the co-founders of Pop-Up Culture, a new Erie-based company that produces creative cultural events in non-traditional venues. Our debut event was a highly successful murder mystery dinner theatre production this past November. With the help of the Adams Mystery Playhouse, we turned the multi-purpose rooms at the Erie Community Center into the site of a deadly and hilarious Killer Family Reunion complete with dinner from Miller’s Grille and dessert by Erie’s own Sweets Ice Cream & Coffee.

We followed that up with an improv workshop where participants learned the basics of improv comedy by participating in spirited warm-up exercises, creative performance games, and basic scene work. This workshop took place at the Arts Coalition of Erie.

For our first event of 2017, we are bringing in professional comedian Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald (as seen on Animal Planet’s Emergency Vets and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson) for a night of stand-up comedy on February 18. We have partnered with the Town of Erie for this event, and it will be taking place in the multi-purpose rooms at the Erie Community Center. Tickets are available at https://popupculture.eventbrite.com and there will be a cash bar. The show is rated PG-13.

We are also working on booking out our 2017 season of monthly events for both adults and families like a farm-to-table dinner, luau, improv comedy, a magician/mentalist, a gala, and another murder mystery dinner theatre. We’ll also be doing performing arts classes for both adults and youth.

A little more about us: over the past few years, Erie’s downtown has seen the opening of delicious new restaurants where the patios are packed with people enjoying local craft beer and parking is hard to come by on a weekend evening. Pop-Up Culture co-founders and Erie residents Jessica Learoyd and Heather Cleveland were inspired by the momentum of local businesses and wanted to contribute to Erie’s unique identity through cultural offerings. So we set out to bring the quality and excitement of big-city events to the town we call home, utilizing a variety of non-traditional venues throughout Erie. Our 2017 season is sponsored in part by the Arts Coalition of Erie, select events are a partnership between Pop-Up Culture and the Town of Erie, and we are also a member of the Erie Chamber of Commerce.

Basically, we wanted to let you know about our company and the upcoming programming that Erie residents and the surrounding communities can enjoy. As we have more event announcements, may we send you press releases and/or is there a different email address that we should include? We are also happy to answer any questions you may have, and our comedian, Kevin Fitzgerald, is happy to do interviews if you are interested.

Please feel free to peruse our website for more information including photo galleries, more about our company, etc. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Heather Cleveland and Jessica Learoyd
