United Way of Weld County collected 3,799 pairs of socks during its third annual Warm Toes Sock Drive throughout December.

The following organizations participated in the drive as collection sites for the socks: Aims Community College, Ameriprise, Atmos Energy, Bank of Colorado, Bartels & Company, Clearview Library District, Connecting Point, Flood & Peterson, Friends of Baseball, Great Western Bank, Hampton Inn & Suites, Hensel Phelps, High Plains Library District, Miss Mary’s Kitchen, North American Title, North Colorado Health Alliance, Pelican Lake Ranch Community, Professional Finance, RE/MAX Alliance Greeley, SilverEdge, The Greeley Tribune, Town of Milliken, Wells Fargo (6 Greeley and 2 Loveland branches) and Westmoor Storage.

Tara Hess, UWWC volunteer engagement coordinator, said the socks will be distributed during the Homeless Point-in-Time Count on Wednesday (Jan. 25), and also to various agencies throughout Weld County during the winter months.

“According to the Mayo Clinic, in cold enough conditions, frostbite can occur in 30 minutes or less. Warm, well-fitting socks can prevent this and we hope our sock drive will benefit many people,” Hess said. “We want to thank all the organizations who participated in the sock drive. The generosity of our community was incredible.”
